This has been something I admittedly struggle with DAILY, if not hourly. Our society has been bombarded with this fantasy that all the lights will dim and spotlights will hit us and the breeze will blow in the perfect way and angels will come down and sing and your heart will jump out and yell “Oh snap! He’s the one!” when we fall in love, all in one instant. Our heart will beat triple time (which, by the way, would be very unhealthy in any other circumstance!) and we may or may not defy gravity and fly around for a little bit. And as cool as all of that sounds, this fantastical view of love leaves us reaching to higher and more elaborate standards and being left with nothing.
We have made such an idol of the idea of love. I will admit that I think about all the time. Many people will admit that they gage the likelihood of marriage with every person that they are attracted to. We crave love because we were made to love! But the love that we crave is this mirage that the world has provided. God designed us to love him! He wants us to have a deep, intimate relationship with Him, and through that we will be able to find an amazing partnership with someone else in Him. I love the saying “A woman should be so lost in God that a man must seek Him in order to find her” because that is exactly what Jesus wants for us.
God has a plan for us. He loves us SO MUCH that he died for us- that is true love. We will never find a love more sustaining, filling, and fantastic. And while there might not be the coveted “The One”, God has planned it all out and, if we trust in Him, he will lead us to the best of the best. He will lead us to someone who loves Him, but also loves us with their whole heart. They will smile when you do goofy things and will forgive you when you make a mistake and will provide you with so much joy. And in Christ, you will be able to provide the same for them. Prepare your hearts for the Lord and for the partner in faith that the Lord will lead you to! Pray not for your Prince Charming, but that you will be ready for him with a rockin’ faith and undying passion for the Lord!
Matthew 22:37-38
Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment.
To Him be the glory.
