For those of you who have not been blessed enough to hear Francesca Batistelli in the past, please be blessed now! All of her music gives such a great message to the modern-day Christian (and rocks the mic!). But beyond her lovely voice is a message that really tugs on my heart. The chorus gives us an encouraging reminder:
It’s your life, whatcha gonna do?
The world is watching you!
Everyday, the choices you make say what you are
And who your heart beats for…
Everyday, as professed Christians, we are living and breathing as God’s witnesses. We were sent out to make disciples of all people (Matthew 28:19)! But witnesses aren’t always completely positive- there is such thing as false witness. Now, this doesn’t mean that Christians have to defy human nature and be perfect! This also does not mean that we need to squeeze into a cookie cutter. We make mistakes (trust me, I make plenty of them) and we are NOT God. But everyday, we are given a choice when we wake up: we can live for ourselves and the world around us or we can live for our Lord. We decide to bear our cross, open our hearts, and “let our lives be ones that light the way”.
Brothas, sistas, and everyone in between, this is an AWESOME message! We have been given such a great opportunity! God says “You totally don’t have to be perfect! Leave that one up to me! But I sent my Son just for you because I love you more than you will every comprehend. All I ask is that you love me with your whole entire heart so that I can shine through you into the World. Let my love shine brighter than the sun and help those around you find the peace and compassion that you have found in My arms”. Our task is fantastic- we just get to go out and love, love, love, love, and love some more. We get to praise our Lord and be happy and share our peace and our joy and love while God does all of the tough spirit work. Sounds pretty cool, right?
In every moment, we are given so many choices. We can choose this color or that idea with a side of fries (or onion rings or a salad). We are bombarded with the ideas of thousands, excuse me, MILLIONS of different people every day and asked whether we choose to accept or deny the claims. But in every moment, God also gives us a chance to shine through him. He gives us breath, He gives us life, and He protects us like no one else can, and that is something I have never seen a pop-culture fad do.
So who does your heart beat for?
